Heather Snowdon

About me

I have over twenty years’ experience in counselling with adults, adolescents and families. I am experienced in helping with issues like depression, anxiety, grief and loss, child / adolescent and parental conflict, communication difficulties in relationships and adolescent behaviour challenges. My experience includes several years working with young people in a school setting.

Having worked for large NGOs, including The Salvation Army, and in private practice, I am privileged each time I have the experience of sharing part of another person’s life journey and seeing them gain insight, confidence, build resilience and find ways of dealing with what had been distressing them. Main modalities I draw on in my counselling practice include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy.

Heather also currently works as a tutor of counselling students for a large Registered Training Organisation.

More Information

Individual counselling:

Life is about change and most of us find that challenging at some point in our lives. Many people find it beneficial to have some counselling support to work through experiences such as depression, anxiety, stress (whether it be family or work related, or associated with some change in our life). Grief and loss also enter our life in many different forms. Heather is experienced in providing counselling support in relation to these and other issues of life.

Counselling Adolescents:

Most people will acknowledge that parenting can present many challenges. Do you feel that your teenager does not communicate with you as you would like? Are you concerned about how they might be feeling or what is going on for them?

Heather has a wealth of experience in working with young people who are ready and willing to seek some support around various concerns (and some not so keen!).

Many young people find it useful to have someone outside their family and circle of friends to talk to at times of stress or distress.

Family Counselling:

Are you feeling that members of your family are not communicating or getting along as you would like? Perhaps there are certain issues which give rise to some degree of conflict?

Heather is highly experienced in working with families to facilitate a process of opening up communication and strengthening communication skills. Family members are often able to come to some agreements and forge a way forward through counselling. Sometimes a seemingly small change can make a big difference!

Heather is also an accredited supervisor and is able to offer clinical supervision to other counselling professionals and trainees.
