Hi, I'm Sue Adams,
I'm a personal and relationship counsellor and psychotherapist. I have been working with individuals and couples for over 20 years and have a wide range of experience.
I am also trained and experienced in family therapy and see families of all types and ages.
I believe an accepting environment is essential to good therapy. I listen to what people are hoping to gain from their time with me and help to clarify their issues. Talking things through with someone trained in asking the right questions can bring unexpected insights. While helping people to live as well as they can in the present I explore the history of the presenting problem which is vital in bringing about long-lasting change. I do both short and long term therapy, individual and couples.
As a relationship of trust develops in therapy it helps a person to question the patterns of behaviour that they have been in for most of their lives. Questioning our responses and understanding why we have them can be liberating. Exploring the role models we had as children is part of this process as is understanding what we came to believe about ourselves as a result of our early experiences.
I give my clients useful strategies to use in making changes in their behaviour and beliefs.
